The trails at North Highlands Nordic were buzzing with excitement and learning this past February 7th and 8th, as the “Elevate Your Ski Technique” workshop, hosted by Cross Country Nova Scotia, proved to be a resounding success! Twenty-two enthusiastic skiers from across Nova Scotia, along with one participant from New Brunswick, gathered to hone their skills and share their passion for cross-country skiing. A particularly strong contingent from Antigonish added to the vibrant atmosphere.

Whether participants were beginners taking their first strides or advanced intermediates looking to refine technique, this workshop had something for everyone. Post-workshop evaluations revealed that participants felt a significant improvement in their skiing abilities. The overwhelming feedback was clear – attendees not only gained valuable skills but would enthusiastically recommend the workshop to friends and eagerly participate in future events.

Beyond the technical instruction, the spirit of camaraderie and the warm hospitality of the North Highlands Nordic community shone brightly. Participants and instructors alike raved about the welcoming atmosphere created by the staff and volunteers. Of course, no gathering is complete without good food, and the turkey dinner and chilli were declared “absolutely yummy!” by all.

The workshop’s dual goals were clearly met. First, adult skiers of all levels were able to elevate their cross-country ski technique. Secondly, six Nova Scotia instructors, including four from Cape Breton and two from Halifax, had the opportunity to refine their teaching skills and deepen their understanding of Nordiq Canada’s methodologies. A pre-workshop session on February 6th allowed instructors to collaborate and ensure a consistent approach to teaching both classic and skate skiing techniques.

The success of “Elevate Your Ski Technique” highlights the growing enthusiasm for cross-country skiing in Nova Scotia. This workshop is just the beginning! We encourage all Nova Scotians, whether you’re a seasoned skier or just curious to try it out, to join us for future workshops and events.
