Ski Team Tests Mettle at Atlantic Super Camp

by Cross Country Nova Scotia, Staff, Oct 23, 2024

Ski team athletes challenged their physical and mental capacities, alongside athletes from four provinces, while attending the third annual Atlantic Super Camp at Fundy National Park, on Oct 18-20, 2024. Our athletes forged new friendships throughout the jam-packed weekend that included roller-skiing up hills with 416 m elevation gain, competing in a duathlon with an uphill roller-ski and trail run, hill striding sprints, technical sessions, coastal trail running, and field challenges.

Event organizer Anna Healy, head coach for the Wostawea Ski Club, created environments that served as the catalyst for athletes to work together towards common goals; which included teaching each other to play poker – followed by a tournament, strategic ice breakers, and team races. Team and individual achievements were recognized on the final day. Duathlon results can be viewed on Zone4.

Healy emphasized that “enthusiasm for cross country skiing is bursting at the seams thanks to the collaborative efforts of our region. Together we are more. Together we are raising the bar. Together we are creating momentum.”

A stellar coaching group came together from four provinces, along with Nordiq Canada’s Stephen Novosad, coach development manager and Stéphane Barrette, former CEO. Daniel Murray, head coach of our provincial team attended.

To experience greater successes at the national level, it’s important to experience these successes in training.  Fundy certainly helped the athletes produce training stats that I betcha many thought were not possible.  And of course, it’s always easier when in the company of like-minded people, from this fun corner of the country.

Daniel Murray, Head Coach, Nova Scotia Ski Team

On behalf of the Cross Country Nova Scotia Board of Directors and the Nova Scotia Ski Team, please accept our sincerest thank-you for delivering a meaningful life experience, with many lessons learned, to all of the young athletes who are even more connected to our cross-country ski community. We extend a massive round of applause for Anna Healy, along with all of the coaches and volunteers who supported the event’s mission.

Ski Culture

Our provincial team skiers added hours to their training logs, increased their technical know-how, and spent time in nature at it’s finest. Perhaps most importantly, our young athletes contributed to the greater ski community and made memories they will value for a lifetime – which Dr Seuss suggests become even better with age. We couldn’t agree more.
