Nordic Ski News – February 11, 2026

Welcome to Ski News. We hope you enjoy reading about Nova Scotia’s cross-country ski community.

Skills Clinics

We offer skills clinics for able bodied and para nordic skiers of all ages and abilities. Some events offer equipment to borrow, such as ski gear, sit skis or a kick sled. Choose from social skis, beginner clinics, snowshoe jaunts, moonlit adventures and more. We also list clinics hosted by Municipalities and organizations.

Schools and community groups are encouraged to book a skills clinic tailored to your requirements – we have a ski fleet available for rent, which is available with or without a coach or support staff. Learn more.

Club Event Highlights

Youth Fun Day at Baddeck Nordic Club, February 7

By Nicoline Kerkhoven DeWitt (Baddeck Skiers Facebook Group): Congratulations to these successful young risk takers! Thank you to parents, coaches, instructors, the Baddeck Public Library Equipment Loan program and the Cross Country Nova Scotia Ambassador program.

Don’t worry if you missed this one… there is another family event next Saturday February 14th! For more information on this event and others, visit the Events on the Baddeck Nordic Club page.

2nd Annual Margaret Fraser Memorial Snowshoe Loppet at North Highlands Nordic, February 8

By Theresa Buchanan (North Highlands Nordic Facebook): Thanks to everyone who came in memory of our dear sister Margaret. She would be so proud. Not to forget all the volunteers and North Highlands Nordic. Thanks again an awesome day.

North Highlands Nordic hosts this event annually to remember Margaret. The event includes snowshoeing, sharing a potluck meal and a special presentation in which participants are awarded a hand-crafted wooden medal. Participants snowshoe with her family and friends, tell stories, laugh and remember this amazing person who was a dedicated volunteer at NHN.

Jackrabbit and Bunnies Race Day at North Highlands Nordic, February 7

A fun event for the youngsters at North Highlands Nordic! Creating magical childhood memories on skis. Special thank-you to all of the volunteers who made this event happen. Visit NHN’s Facebook page for additional footage and hear the laughter that filled the trails that day.

Clubs

Nova Scotia has four cross-country ski clubs that bring outdoor enthusiasts together. Consider joining one of our clubs to meet new ski friends and spend time with positive minded people. There are many ways to be involved as a volunteer that bring a great sense of purpose and the satisfaction of seeing many enjoy the sport. Our clubs welcome visiting skiers.

Cross-country ski clubs maintain expertly groomed and marked trails, which provide a safe place for beginners to learn. Clubs also host social events, races, pop-up races, pop-up instruction sessions, and offer programs for all ages and abilities. Additional activities may include: roller-skiing, nordic walking, snowshoeing, weekly social skis, and group trips.
