April 2020 – Many online learning opportunities exist to increase your knowledge and enjoyment of cross-country skiing. If you happen to have extra time on your hands, consider these training options.
Most of these courses are free – and CCNS will cover the cost of your course fees (just send your receipt + course completion confirmation to ccns@sportnovascotia.ca.
INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNITY COACHING (ICC) + COACH INITIATION IN SPORT
These are the beginner courses for anyone interested in coaching for the first time. You must complete Coach Initiation in Sport first (1 hour) and then complete the ICC course (approx. 4 hours). To access the course, create an account with the Coaching Association of Canada, (https://coach.ca/ )then log-in to ‘the locker’ (top right of screen), then click on ‘e-learning’, then choose ‘cross country skiing’ in the box under ‘e-learning.’ If you need help, contact ccns@sportnovascotia.ca.
Course Descriptions | Nordiq Canada
LEVEL 1 OFFICIALS COURSE
Free – approx. 2.5 hours. This course will teach you all of the basics for volunteering at an XC ski race or loppet. At the end you’ll be a certified Level 1 Official. Simply create an account in the Nordiq Canada Officials Training Centre https://cccofficials.moonami.com/, and then click “Nordiq Canada Officials Level 1 Online Certification.”
COACHING ATHLETES WITH A DISABILITY
$15 – approx, 45 min. This course is for coaches who are new to coaching athletes with a disability. The module provides the knowledge to deliver quality, positive sport experiences for athletes, specifically those with behavioural, intellectual, physcial, and sensory disabilities. CCNS is expanding our Para Nordic learn to ski programs – so we really hope you will take this course.
ONLINE MULTI-SPORT “COMPETITION INTRODUCTION” & “COMPETITION DEVELOPMENT” COURSES
All courses are free if you register before June 1 (includes courses such as ‘Psychology of Performance’, ‘Manage a Sport Program).
COMMIT TO KIDS FOR COACHES
$12 – approx. 2.5 hours. This course empowers coaches with practical information to help them enhance child and youth safety in sport. It highlights the importance of understanding boundaries, sexual misconduct and reporting inappropriate behaviour. It will soon be required for all coaches.
WAX TECH 101
The module is free for any coaches with ‘Intro to Community Coach’ training and $12 for everyone else.
ONLINE LEARNING – VARIOUS COURSES
Many online courses of interest to coaches and parents. Currently, 50% – 60% discounts. The cost of these courses are not covered by CCNS.
