World Cup “Finale” in Canmore, AB

Get excited! The 2020 FIS Cross-Country World Cup season finale will be held at the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park on March 19th – 22nd, 2020.

The world’s top 200 elite cross-country skiers will race for three days in the season finale of the FIS World Cup, right here in Canada. The first ever mixed relay will be held on the final day of competition. Teams will consist of two women and two men per nation, racing in both skating and classic techniques. The season finale is a special race, as overall World Cup winners are determined and awarded. Plan your March travel to Canmore, or view televised coverage.

The Alberta World Cup Society has been working on this event for three years. Spectators will have much to enjoy, in addition to the excitement of the races. The Alberta World Cup Society is planning many community activities – including art, music, and cultural displays. Be inspired by these athletes within a festive environment.

The Fédération International de Ski (FIS) is the world’s highest governing body for international winter sports, including cross-country skiing.

FIS governs the World Cup, which is a series of designated races, wherein the world’s top skiers attempt to accumulate the most points. At the World Cup season finale, skiers with the most points will be awarded the Overall World Cup. Athletes are also acknowledged for achieving overall points in two sub-categories – Sprint World Cup and Distance World Cup.
