Ski Maintenance Workshops

Book a workshop!

During our ski maintenance workshops, your organization’s staff and volunteers will learn simple technical skills that will keep your fleet in top condition. Community members are welcome to attend. Regular cross-country ski maintenance will extend the life of equipment and safeguard your investments. In turn, skiers will have the optimal experience on properly waxed and maintained skis.

Workshops are voluntarily led by experienced ski technician, Ike Whitehead, also known as “that ski guy”. Whitehead is a ski enthusiast with more than fifty years in the sport. He welcomes every opportunity to assist groups with the basics, so that many will discover the joy of cross-country skiing. Ike is photographed leading a workshop at The Keppoch.

Overview

Workshops are designed to teach simple techniques to properly care for ski fleets, provide practice opportunities for volunteers and staff, and encourage organizations to host sessions for their community members.

We invite staff and volunteers to attend the community workshops to further practice and demonstrate their technical skills, alongside ski technician, Ike Whitehead.

Fees

Organizations are required to cover travel costs for the ski technician, Ike Whitehead, who leads sessions on a voluntary basis. Ike arranges for all supplies to be provided by his sponsor, Swix. One possibility would be to host a public clinic in your area. The fee for participants could go towards the expenses.

Testimonial

Ski technician, Ike Whitehead, leads an interactive workshop at The Keppoch, attended by community members. The Keppoch is an outdoor recreation hub, featuring 9km groomed trails for classic and 1.5km for skate. Photo credits, The Keppoch.

Ike knows how to inspire! Through his workshops he brings in-depth knowledge and joy to the Keppoch. Laughter is common when he’s around. Ike usually has a great story at hand when he answers the many questions he gets about ski care, and this makes learning with him entirely relatable, fun, and memorable.

His love and passion for XC skiing is a source of great energy felt by all. You can see this in his eyes and his kind, welcoming smile. Resourceful, kind, reliable, and helpful are part of Ike’s DNA. The Keppoch shines even brighter when Ike is around.

We are thankful for Ike and look forward to his next visit. Atlantic Canada is lucky to have him!
