Ski Ambassadors – Call for Applications

Hiring P/T Ambassadors

Cross Country Nova Scotia is interested in hiring two Ski Ambassadors who will be responsible for continuing to grow and serve the membership of CCNS with our membership and external partners.  The Ski Ambassadors will work closely with CCNS member clubs and other stakeholders to bring community based on-snow opportunities to cross country skiers across the province.

We are hoping to secure one position to support Cape Breton and one position to support mainland Nova Scotia.  

The role could include lots of variety, for example:

  • Work with our Communications Lead to promote Cross Country Nova Scotia and our programs, events and services.
  • Work with Municipal Recreation Departments to establish or solidify equipment loan programs.
  • Work with Clubs to help organize +/- implement various events, including Loppets, Races, Social Skis, Try-It Events.
  • Work with Municipal Recreation Departments to organize +/- implement various events, including Socials Skis, Try-It Events.
  • Provide Pop-Up Instructional programming at the beginner level in the Classic Technique.  This could include either Youth or Adults.  Skate Ski technique proficiency considered an asset.
  • Host group skis, both at member clubs +/- other locations to foster community building.
  • Work with CCNS Coach Development Committee to organize and implement Coach Training opportunities 

Reports To:

  • CCNS Board member designated as Ski Ambassador Liaison.

Hours:

  • This will be a seasonal position (Jan-March.) Hours per week will vary, with the expectation that evenings and weekends will be frequently required for the events. 
  • An average of 40 hours/month would be anticipated to be available for each position. 
  • Those ours will be divided between the organization and delivery of the events.  Those hours could be provided by a duo or group working collectively if desired.
  • Hourly wage of $20-$27/hour, depending on experience and training.

Location:

  • We are hoping to secure one position to support Cape Breton and one position to support mainland Nova Scotia.  
  • Travel by car will be required and reimbursed.  
  • Cape Breton Ski Ambassador will co-ordinate with North Highlands Nordic, Cape Breton Nordic and Baddeck Nordic Ski Clubs.
  • Mainland Ski Ambassador will co-ordinate with SCOTIA XC Ski Club and Municipal REC Departments.

Qualifications:

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Criminal Background Check & Child Abuse Registry
  • NCCP Community Coach or higher (or to be completed within year of starting)
  • NCCP Rule of 2 Training Completed
  • NCCP Safe Sport Training Module Completed 
  • NCCP Making Ethical Decisions Training
  • Register for a Nordiq Canada Coaching License (to be completed when starting)

  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to be flexible in potential timeline changes due to weather/ski conditions
  • Self directed in generating event ideas
  • Knowledge and experience maintaining and repairing XC Ski equipment
  • Experience providing beginner ski instruction to children and adults
  • Strong communications skills (speaking and writing)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with stakeholders and volunteers
  • Commitment to reducing the barriers to participation in XC Skiing
