Adult Roller-Ski and Fall Conditioning

by SCOTIA XC Ski Club, Sept 2023

SCOTIA XC coach Kat Kitching is coordinating an informal roller-ski training group this fall, starting September 12.

Anyone is welcome to join – prior roller-ski experience is not required, but participants should be reasonably confident and at least somewhat experienced on skis- this is not a beginner lesson.

Participants can come with their own rollerskis or inline skates – or – Kat will provide skate and classic roller-skis on behalf of the club (supply limited).  If you are nervous, the club’s new classic roller-skis can be used for skate too, and are much more stable and easy to use, if you are just starting out.

Everyone must supply their own bike or hockey helmet.  Kat has plenty of “balance-assist poles” available for loan, as well as limited knee and elbow pads on first-come first served basis.

There is no cost for the program, but a $10 rental fee is requested if you use the club skis, to offset the cost of fleet expansion and maintenance.

This is a casual group that will try to meet once a week, with the day varying based on weather and participant availability.
The times to be chosen from include evenings on Monday, Tuesday, Saturday or Sunday. Afternoons on Sunday is also an option. If you are not available during any of these times but are interested in roller-skiing with others, send Kat a note and she will connect you with others in the group who may like to ski with you.

The roller-skiing will be done on the COLTA trail and the meet location for now will be near the Ashburn golf course. Kat will provide details weekly. We may vary the location in the future, depending on participant feedback

Everyone will start out together, but the group may spread out based on different fitness levels. Kat will try to spend some time with everyone, giving encouragement and pointers as desired by each participant.  If you just want to ski with others with no feedback, that is also an option!
