NOVA SCOTIA PROVINCIAL CROSS COUNTRY SKI TEAM

OVERVIEW

Nova Scotia established a Provincial Cross Country Ski Team in 19xx. Over xx years, xx athletes have raced competitively. Skiers compete in local, regional, and national races. The Provincial team operates within a strong volunteer-based community – investing in our young athlete’s technical skills; along with their emotional, social, and physical wellness.

The head coach for the current Nova Scotia Team, along with many coaches who assist during training camps or at the club level, are former team athletes – a testament to the program’s propensity for developing future leaders.

Our Provincial Team’s history is full of inspirational leaders, determined competitors, dedicated volunteers, sense of community, and many good times. The legacy of the Provincial Team continues.

2019-2020 TEAM

The 2019-2020 Nova Scotia XC Ski Team is comprised of eight high-performance athletes, who train under the direction of head coach, Daniel Murray. Athletes in this program receive racing support, high quality coaching, and year-round individual training plans.

Team members are dedicated to achieving their training goals and tracking progression throughout the year, with support from the head coach. During the winter, athletes travel to regional and national races, as a team. Training camps are held, during every season, to support all aspects of athlete development.

The Provincial Team is dedicated to athlete development within a positive team culture. Young athletes strive for excellence in cross-country skiing, while furthering inter-personal skills. Athletes learn to support team members, build leadership skills, and thrive in a group dynamic. The Provincial Team provides invaluable experiences that prepare our athletes for skiing and life.

ABOUT

PAYING IT FORWARD

Historically, thousands of volunteers have worked to establish Nova Scotia’s Provincial Ski Team – coaches, administrators, managers, officials, and financial supporters. All realizing the value of investing in our young athletes.

Many athletes in this photograph have transitioned from Provincial Team athletes into coaching &/or leadership roles – choosing to pay it forward. A few of our second generation team families are also featured.

The tradition continues. We’ve seen our first generation athletes transition to coaching, watched as their daughters or sons raced, and now we see their children moving into leadership roles. The Provincial Team is a community grounded in volunteerism. Making an impact on youth during the formative teenage years.

Research documents the benefits for youth who volunteer, and the importance of connecting youth to communities demonstrating volunteerism. Our program is filled with volunteer leadership and opportunities to participate.

POSITIVE TEAM CULTURE

Building a positive team culture is deliberate.  The Provincial Team develops good people, first.  The leadership teaches young athletes how to set goals to achieve athletic excellence, while encouraging fellow teammates, every step of the way. Athletes enjoy a supportive and physically challenging environment while training as a team, where they can laugh and have fun.
